Meeting the AMAZING Avery Flynn!

What projects have you done? I've published books one and two in the Dry Creek series (Up a Dry Creek and A Dry Creek Bed), which is a steamy romantic suspense series set in Dry Creek, Nebraska. Plus I've written a free read steampunk story, Victory Garden, which you can read at http://waterworldmermaids.com/2011/10/victory-garden-part-one-by-avery-flynn/

Any new projects coming up? Always! I'm in the middle of writing book three in the Dry Creek series (High and Dry Creek) and am plotting out a new book with a paranormal/super hero twist. I'm really exited about both projects.

What are your habits when you sit down to create? Do you have to be in a certain room? outside? Are you naked? lol I am always freezing so I can't imagine writing naked. Right now I'm bundled up in jeans, tank, two layering T-shirts a sweater, thick socks and slippers. You'd think I lived in the Artic, but no I'm outside of Washington DC and it's in the mid-50s outside. Crazy, eh? As to what I need to write, I need to be warm and have a keyboard. That's it.

What is your opinion on Indie publishers versus Self publishing? You know I don't think the world will ever have enough great books. Indie, self-published, big six - who cares. What matters is the story.

5 words to perfectly decribe you. Fun, fast talking, stubborn, smart and sassy.

How do you build your character world? I started off with the area in Nebraska where I grew up and added in elements, such as an artists' colony, to fictionalize it. Then I layered the Layton family history into the history of Dry Creek, Nebraska. I have badly drawn maps (I can barely draw stick people so the map is ugly) of the area and refer back to that a lot while writing. Plus I have massive character sheets to show how everyone in the small town is connected to one another.

Do you think that the future is ebook or print? I'm for both. I love the immediacy of ebooks and the wider variety of choice in the types of books available, but there's something so emotionally pleasing about opening a new book for the first time. I cannot walk by a bookstore and not go in.

Do you even watch the news and if so, does it inspire you in anyway? I'm a news junkie. We get two newspapers, I hit the news blogs all day long and we watch the news on TV. I'm a former newspaper reporter so I can't imagine being any other way.

Are you a dirty or clean writer? Well, my desk is always a pit, does that count? :) I have to say I straddle the line. I'm clean for erotica and dirty for sweet romance. I have an open door sex policy in the Dry Creek series books because I think that sexuality is part of the characters and when they have sex it is not just put tab A into tab B, it's about the couple's development.

What animals do you have? I have two old, arthritic dogs who sleep 20 out of 24 hours a day. Their names are Puck and Zamboni. Yeah, we're hockey fans at my house.

Favorite movie or movies. I could watch Bridget Jones Diary every day and still love it. Other top favorites? Princess Bride, Usual Suspects, Down With Love, Out of Africa and The Departed.

Are you comfortable with your sexuality and does it play a huge role in your art? It took a few years but yes I am comfortable with my sexuality. I think women are socialized, even in this day and age, to separate their sexuality from their brains and other talents but I think sexuality is a fluid concept that flows into all aspects of a person's life.

Are you clumsy or graceful? I am a true klutz. I'm the girl who trips on a perfectly bare floor.

Favorite holiday...Halloween or Christmas? - Without a doubt Halloween. I love to dress up, plus there's candy. You can't beat that combination.

Favorite word. - Marshmallow. It's so much fun to say, plus my three year old says smarshmellow, which makes it even better.

"I do believe I can arrest you for looking at someone like that. You've got to be breaking some indecency laws."

Taking a deep breath, she recovered her bearings. Mostly. "You're out of your jurisdiction, sheriff."

Dry Creek County Sheriff Hank Layton is the stuff of dreams. Nasty, steamy, delicious fantasies that leave Beth Martinez weak-kneed and desperately wanting the man she can never have.

Hank can’t stop thinking about Beth to the point where he’s afraid of becoming permanently bowlegged. And even though the sexual tension between them is thick enough to trip over, she runs every time he chases.

But when a mysterious developer forces her neighbors off their land, Beth becomes the one person standing between the scoundrel and millions of dollars. Only Hank can help her uncover the truth. Together they risk their lives exposing decades-old secrets and learn that everything is not as it seems in their rural Nebraska town.
